Move over everyone single mom nightmare coming through!!!! I have a sewege injection pump. It stopped working, but I can still hear a humming. I called the plumber and without even opening it he says $800. I took the pipe apart and wet vac the pipe leading to the pump and the humming got louder, but it still won't start. Today, I am going to try to open the bucket and take the pump out and wet vac out the bucket. Does anyone know what else I can do before I head to buy a new one. Please help!! Urgent!!!. I also keep smiling a weird odor sometimes. It is vented to the roof. That is problem two.
Thannnnnnnnnnks!!!!!!!!!

Since the pump is humming, the switch is presumably working.
When you get the pump out, look at the inlet and see if it contains a diaper or a washcloth. If you can see the impeller, see if you can rotate it with a screwdriver or something. If you can see the impeller, plug it in for a moment, raise the float, and see if it turns.
I won't suggest trying to take it apart to see if it can be fixed.
Then put the pump in a big bucket or waste basket full of water and see if it pumps when you raise the float. Do it outside and stand clear because if it works there will be a lot of water.
If that doesn't work you probably need a new pump, but first, make sure the check valve or discharge line is not plugged or jammed.
If it works in the bucket it will probably work in the sump unless there is a discharge line problem. If you can hook it to the discharge line after verifying that it works, and pump the waste basket to the discharge line, then you will check out the whole system.
When you have it out, find the nmake and model number and post it here so we can tell you what you need for a replacement, if you can't find an exact match at HD or somewhere. Write down the make and model number even if you don't need to replace it. It will come in handy when it really fails.
I hope you don't realy have a sewage INJECTION pump.
It would be the first one I have ever seen.
I also definately don't SMILE over weird odors.
