I have a problem and I was wondering if ANYONE knows anything about it. It has been raining alot in the last few days and I noticed my subpump going off constantly, but now the pump that is connected to my washing machine waste drain will not shut off unless I pull the plug. It doesnt seem to be pumping out any water while it is plugged in but it sounds like it wants to.Does it mean the pump itself is clogged with lint or could it mean the pump needs to be replaced? Is it going to back up if I keep it unplugged and if it is , is it tied to my sewage line ( toilets and sinks)?

You should not get backup if there is a check valve in the discharge, which there should be.

I would disconnect the pump and pull it out for inspection and test. See if it will pump out of a bucket of water. If it works there, then you probably have a problem in the discharge line. If not, fix or replace the pump.

While you are at it, check out the sump pump. Measure the flow rate with a big bucket and a watch with sweep second hand to see if it is pumping near rated flow. If it isn't, pull it out and check it in the same way. Repair or replace as required. Not a big deal to replace the pump. They have a big selection at HD.
