I live in a bungalow with both a floor drain and a sump pump in my basement. I recently had a pipe leak (another story) in my basement and the water gravitated to the floor drain, which drained v e r y s l o w l y. I've since been scooping out mud and muck from the pipe. I've gone down 2-3 feet and still mucky. Oh, dear, what could the matter be? And what is the remedy?

Is there pipe as you are going down or just muck? Normaly there is a trap and you go down 6" or so. Can you run water in it and have it drain down?
