Hello,

I recently added an addition to my home and in the process converted an old bedroom into a master bath that includes a toilet, sink, standup shower, and Jacuzzi tub. We submitted drawings to do all the work our selves. This is our first major building project (and last) and after several drawings revisions submitted they told us to just get started and they’ll help with any questions down the road (specifically plumbing and hvac).

Everything has gone fairly smooth except for the plumbing and I think we’ve gotten ahead of our selves on this.

A friend said he’d help with the plumbing but he isn’t up to any code and is quite a bit older. The house has a crawl space with a 3†drain and a 3â€cast iron vent. He added a new 3†vent that exits outside for the new bathroom and is vented directly to the 3†drain both toilets are connected to. Nothing else is directly vented besides the toilets. Is this ok?

We tested everything with buckets of water and it and filled tub and it all appears to drain correctly. I’m about to call the inspector for help but I fear that he might recommend I start from the beginning with the drains \vents.

Please take a look at the attachment.

Thank you.

venting

If your drawing is complete, then nothing is vented except the toilets, and some inspectors would say that by adding the pipe for the second toilet, you have caused the original one to not be vented properl.

Would the best way of fixing this be to add those open air vents under each device and to possibly remove the second vent?

The best way would be to think,

Every fixture needs to be vented.

Pipe and fittings are cheap.

Once the walls are covered, it's not a cheap fix.

Trap arm max lengths
1.5" pipe 42"
2.0" pipe 60"
3.0" pipe 72"
4.0" pipe 72" for toilet

If you are pulling a second toilet from the first waste line, you will need to cut in a wye and run past the first toilet and vent.
At the second toilet, you will need a vent within six feet of the flange.

The other fixtures should have been wyed off, and before you get to the traps, they will need to be vented.
