HELP!! How do i get this drain piece off my pipe???

Hello all, noobie here. I have a little plumbing experience, but never had to deal with this. Im remodeling my bathroom and removed the shower pan (had to cut it apart to see what i was dealing with) and found that this drain to the old pan wont come off my ABS pipe. I really dont want to have to cut the pvc as i dont know how one would even access it (2nd floor and i have a swirl tipe finish on my ceilings) to extend it again. Please help! I assume the rubber piece is some sort of compression gasket? But it wont budge and the "bowl" of the drain which is metal is pretty hard to access through the small hole in the floor. THANKS

If you can't pull out the rubber seal, you may need to cut some plywood and cut the ABS pipe below the drain.
It looks like you had a shower pan with the molded in metal drain.

Looks to me like someone used epoxy instead of the rubber seal

Oh no this is what i was afraid of! Do you think they used epoxy? Would it be a good idea to cut the plywood? How would i patch that up?? I plan on putting a new pan in but this time i will lay a bed of mortar down 1st.

Unless you have a way of cutting from the inside, you will need to make the hole bigger.
And then it can be patched. Just the two choices.

If i do end up having to make the hole bigger- what would be the best way to patch it? Also, how would i extend the pipe again? Just get a ABS coupling and glue it? thx again

ABS is installed with ABS solvent.

i recommend getting a professional that will be able to use inside cutters and install the proper drain you will need for your new pan.... p.s. -> its not PVC.... its ABS.

Cut through the metal drain from the outside to the gasket. That should either loosen it, or you can make another cut on the other side and and remove the two parts, then slide the gasket off.

mikeplumber thx for the clarification. I may just get a friend of the family that is a contractor to handle this

johnjh2o1 if I did this what would be the best method to extend the abs? tx

Try what HJ said, use a hacksaw blade or a sawsall (need to be more careful with that!) and slice through the drain up to the pipe (or really close). That should allow you to use someting like a screwdriver as a wedge to spread the thing and release it. If you have trouble with only one cut, do that on opposite sides, you should be able to peel the thing back off of the pipe if it isn't glued.

ABS glues together similar to PVC...just make sure to use the materials specifically for ABS.
