I'm looking for stainless steel nuts to order.

all i see are 5/16-18 and 5/16-24.

which one fits the bolt ?

IT would be the coarse thread one, not the SAE 24 tpi. Why are you "ordering" them? Home Depot and almost any hardware or auto supply store will have them. Anyway, if you have brass bolts, then use brass nuts.

i'm trying to order them because my local plumbing supply doesn't sell the nuts individually.
and home depot's website doesn't seem to indicate they sell stainless steel nuts individually. They don't even list real brass nuts for my store.
local orielly's and autozone don't have them either.

they only have the tank to bowl kit, and usually those are cheap brass plated or nothing plated at all.

I want something that will be rust proof for easy fixing later, just in case.

spent a good amount of time at HD today looking through their drawers.
They have no stainless steel nuts in 5/16 size.

they only have a 100 pack for $26. I only need 2 nuts.

I'm just going to slather a bunch of silicone grease on the nut and hope that prevents any rust.

MY God! Go to Ace Hardware then. I buy SS nuts and bolts there frequently, but as HJ points out, brass works just as well.

The toilets I install come with brass nuts and bolts. Make it nice.
I have seen some of the cheap toilets in homes with a mound of rust clumping over the bolt heads in the tank. They must have saved a few pennies in production.

Surely a big town like Los Angeles still has a few real hardware stores left?! Seek one out, and patronize it!

LOL

I live in LA and I need to order 2 nuts for my plumbing project... wow.

Some things sure can be made more complicated than necessary.

relax. you wouldn't believe how shitty los angeles county is to find stuff. All the small hardware stores were driven out by the big box stores.
Ace hardware here sucks the most.
And you would think HD and Lowes would have everything, but nope.

Anyway, I found a specialty nuts and bolts shop 15 miles away and bought a bunch of solid brass nuts for 28 cents a piece.
