Removing stems for a Kohler shower valve

It's the K303 valve system. Link to Kohler site below:

The stems are 77006 and 77005. Quarter turn.

I am putting a wrench on inner larger hex bolt and gave it a "moderate" try counter clock wise. Did not budge. I did not want to precede not knowing if this is the proper way to remove these.

Any advise?

Use a quality socket and turn counter clockwise. Kohler use to use air impact wrenchs at their factory to install their tub stems......but those had copper cap gaskets. Dont be shy!
