Need more hot water

Installed a BIG tub in the master bath and the existing 40 gal HW htr can't handle the need. Since the existing htr is in good shape, is it reasonable to add another 40 gal unit in series with it? Also, would it pay to put one of the units on a timer if we only use the tub occasionally? Thanks.

Sure and yes hook both units to the timer. You also might want to consider adding a 50 Gal. instead of a 40. The price difference between the 2 is minor.

At my supplier,the 50 gallon electric heater costs ***less*** than the 40 gallon.

Just remember that the existing wire can only handle one water heater so you have to provide a new circuit to the entrance panel for a second one.

Yes, thanks to everyone. Will install an additional 50 gal unit and run it to a new 240 v. Circuit Breaker.
