Hello!

We moved into this rental, a 3 bedroom double wide with a septic system/drain field. When we first moved in back in March, on cold mornings we noticed a pretty bad sewer smell, but could not locate it. During the summer, this smell went away. Now that it has started getting cold again, we noticed the smell, for the first time about a month ago. Went to Lowes and picked up some septic treatment packs, monthly maintenance stuff. Seems to help with the outside smell, but only temporarily. When it returns, we put another packet in the toilet and flush it.

Over the last week, we are now noticing that when the toilet is flushed, it gurgles, like a big bubble coming up. Also hearing gurgling in the kitchen sink when the washing machine drains.

Any thoughts?

And dont waste any money on septic voo-doo injections. It gets plenty for free after a good mexican dinner.

Make sure your place has vents and they are open.

The sad part is that if a septic tank was neglected for so long that it has overflowed with sludge to the point the sludge clogs the field, the damage is permanent.

Hopefully that is not the case here, that perhaps it's just a case of high ground water and poor evaporation. If the area has a lot of trees, open it up for better air movement and sun. A saturated field at this time of year is not likely to get much better in the near term.

They said it stinks and gurgles not slow to flush. Being a mobile it should have AAV's and likely they are shot or irregular in operation.. Or there is dead rat in the maybe vent.
