Wirsbo / Pex Newbie - Getting Clean Straight Cuts

What's the secret sauce on getting good clean cuts in Pex.
I may try my tubing cutter with the blade I use to cut PVC with.....

Bought this cutter and I'm not getting good clean straight cuts.
I've tried cutting it on one side....flip the tool 180 so it chops on the opposite side of the tube, etc.
It's just slight tweaked. All cuts are slightly angled.
I'm cutting 3/4" Pex or HePex to be exact

Is the tubing cutter I got a POS and there is a better one ?

I have 30 of those in the classroom. They cut as well as you are going to get. The cut does not have to be dead balls square though it should be pretty close. Hey, you're a chef, you should be good with that thing

One one think you would want it straight so it bottoms out flush on the fitting.
Doing a few trial cuts, maybe it's better with quick straight chop with one of my knives.
That will probably be better than the cuts I'm getting with this tool....

I've only cut a small amount, but I used a http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00937301000P?prdNo=11&blockNo=11&blockType=G11 which seemed to work well. Now, I only used it on 1/2" pex...don't know if the opening is sufficient for 3/4" stuff.

If the blade on the one you have isn't ground evenly, it will skew one way or the other.

The key to using pex is to lower your standards when it comes to appearance of your work.

I'm using it for baseboard heating as I wanted to flush mount the baseboards with no trim covers, etc.

Actually, there is a proper and wrong way on holding/using these cutters.
I was using it the wrong way.

You need to cut with the bad facing towards you.
I was initially cutting with the blade facing downward....

Flipped the tool around, with the blade facing upward and the cuts were dramatically more sqaure

I have NEVER used that type of cutter "upside down" to make a cut. Maybe when it is upside down YOU can see the blade's orientation and adjust for the "angle".
