I have a ball valve 1/4 turn made for water heaters to replace the plastic one.My question is when I install the valve should I use the white tape around the threads or something else? Also what is your opinion about this type of valve in a water heater? THANKS!

That type of valve should be fine and yes use teflon tape(white tape).

A ball valve is not child proof, so this would be my only concern. My grand-daughter from the age of about 3 could open ball valve hose bibbs!

Use teflon tape and pipe dope together, and PLEASE REMOVE THE HANDLE OFF THE BALL VALVE, for reason stated above. But keep it in a place that you know where it is when you need it.
