Hi all,
I'm a new homeowner, we closed on the house Friday. This morning, Sunday, woke up to shaking and vibrating pipes when my husband flushed the toilet! Does anyone know if this is a major problem? And does anyone know the cause and solution?? Oh i forgot the house was built in 2001 and we've lived in it for a year without incident.
Thank you!!!

The toilet fill valve may have some crud in the washer orjust be worn out. Do you know what kind of fill valve it is? Depending on the type of fill valve, it may be a $0.50 part, or you may need to replace it. Could be other things, but from comments here, that may be the most likely. Flush the toilet, and manually lift the float (assuming it has an external one) and see if you can make it start and stop. My unprofessional opinion.

I'm with hj, replacing the valve is easy anyway.
Before you do though, make sure the shutoff valve to the toilet is opened up all the way. Sometimes people turn them down and the water passing over the rubber seal may vibrate.

Thanks All

Thanks for all the feedback! The water company actually came out after I begged for two days and they are going to replace the meter to see if this fixes the problem. The pipes make the noise all over the house no matter what water source is on except the kitchen sink, weird huh? Anyway hopefully that will fix it if not I have a plumber on call to check my pressure regulator valve on Monday.
This is a great place for some plumber illerate people such as myself. Now that I'm a home owner I know where to go for help! Hopefully I won't be back too often. Thanks again!!! ;)

I would love it to, if posters would let us know how their jobs turned out.

It's nice to get the feedback.

One thing nobody mentioned on this thread, is the possiblity of it being a bad pressure reducing valve (PRV).
