I just purchased a used Craftsman 1 hp deep well jet pump model #390.252283. Hooked it up and it will not cut off, does not seem to be putting any water in the pressure tank. I have pulled the lines and took off the foot valve and the injector? and tried to flush them to see if they are stopped up, did get some debris out of the injector. When it is primed it does seem to have pressure at the pump and it did get better about getting some water to the hydrant, but will not cycle off, have tried adjusting the pressure switch? to lower the cut on/cut off point but with no success. Any suggestions? The well is about 40 to 50 foot.

Welcome to Terry's Forums leapnjack,

Is that a single pipe packer, or a two pipe well system ?

Do you have a pressure gauge on the pump ?

Good Luck on your project.

Have a Great day.

I would look for leaks on the suction side, if you are having priming problems.

If the jet is clean, then a broken pipe could be the problem.

That jet may not match that pump, but should make some pressure, if the pump is good.

It seems to prime okay but will not do anything from there, just runs constantly. We do have a faucet there at the pressure tank and it does run some water there, but with very little pressure.

Normally used stuff is sold for a reason.

You may want to test the pump, and go from there. Then I would look for leaks on the 2 water lines.

At least parts are still available for that pump, if you need them. But that pump may not be worth fixing.

Jet pumps are only centrifugal pumps that circulate water. In a 2 pipe deep well system the Jet assembly is what moves the water and builds pressure. Check to see the pipesfrom the jet are connected to the right inlet and outlets of the pump. If they are it's probably debris in the nozzle of the injector (nozzle with a 1/4" hole in it). Remove and clean the nozzle. Almost any injector that is conneceted right and no debris in the nozzle will work. They proper one for the pump may or may not work better! On a two pipe system a small leak in the suction line (larger line) is not as important as it is on a single pipe suction line.

I assumed that it was plumed properly, but swapped lines would sure be a problem.

Here is a link to the Install info for that pump, just in case you need it.

P.S. that pump being 1 HP , Both lines may be 1.25 on both lines, and it sure could be swapped.
Sears plastic and cast iron pumps have the suction and drive lines swapped. Thanks Chris.
