Humming Control Box

I have a Red Jacket Control Box that seems to "humm" rather loudly whenever there is a demand to turn on the submersible pump. Do all control boxes make noise or could this be an indication of capacitor gone bad???

If it humms through the entire cycle, it could be the old potential relay that was used years back on the smaller pumps. 1/2hp to 1.5hp to be exact. The newer solid state relays don't make any noise at all.

Is it possible you have a larger than 1.5hp pump and your control box has a contactor? If so, contactors tend to vibrate when they get old and rusty.
