Im in the process of Building a barn and want to put in a yard hydrant for drinking water. The barn is about 150 meters from the well head. Ive been told all I need to do is splice the current supply line before it gets to my house ( which is about 50 meters from the well head) but I'm wondering if its that simple. The hose would not be used often but do I have to worry about pressure loss to my house by increasing the total length of the water line? Or anything else I dont know to be worried about? I've tried to get a plumber out but nobody wants my little job. Ive got a good handle on most construction but Im lost when it comes to plumbing.

They are right, just find the line and cut in a tee for the yard hydrant.
You can add a inground shutoff for it too. That way you could repair it if needed without shutting down the home.

If you do it yourself, be sure to put some gravel or similar around the bleeder to give the water somewhere to go when the handle is closed so it won't freeze.

Install a Merrill Any Flow Hydrant. This is a high quality product.

If you have a constant pressure system and the controls are in the house it could cause some unwanted problems, but no big deal on a pressure switch system.

Along with the gravel, set the hydrant on a concrete block.
