Need help with system.
I am trying to save my pump from burning up. Due to over water use the well has been going dry at times and pump keeps running. I got a 1600 gal storage tank.
Right now I have the well pump pumping into a 60 gallon pressure tank and then to two houses.
I was told to get a pump savor and a pump that pumps from the storage tank into the pressure tank. It comes out to be around 800 dollars. This seems high. Is there a cheeper way to do it? Like a low pressure switch or somthing else.
the storage tank and pressure tank are right next to each other. The houses are about 50 feet away with a rise of about 30 feet.
Please help.

You can use a Cycle Sensor to protect the well pump from running dry. http://www.cyclestopvalves.com/pdf/sensor-brochure-front.pdf

Using the 1600 gallon storage tank with a booster pump will give you some cushion so you don’t run out of water in the houses. You can also manage your peak water uses to try and keep from pumping the well dry. If you can do this, then you won’t need the storage tank and booster pump.

A pressure switch with a low pressure cutoff is cheap but the annoyance of it tripping and the skill level needed to reset it without short-cycling the pump might out-weigh the savings.

I've installed many dual systems around Albuquerque. We pumped water from the well with a low flow pump and a cycle sensor into a large storage tank. Then a seperate pump (submersible or booster) and small tank and Cycle Stop Valve to supply the home or homes. This is the standard where limited water was found.
