2Â½" 12-point socket fits on 4" cleanout square plug?

Before I spend my hard earned $20 on a cheap socket, can anybody confirm that a 12-point socket for a 2-1/2" hex nut will fit onto my deeply recessed 4" cleanout cover with a 2-1/8" square drive?

It depends on how much "slop" there is in the socket, and how accurate your 2 1/4" measurements are, because that socket should be about 1/8" too small across the points.
