To get a good seal on the trap does anyone use teflon tape? I hate metal to metal connections on drains.

Or is my boss just buying cheap ones?
Are there ones with the beveled end coated in teflon? or a rubber gasket?

P-Traps should not have Teflon tape put on them.
There should be a plastic or a rubber gasket at each slip joint to make the seal.

The connection from the trap to the trap arm is not a slip joint, it does not have a gasket and should not need any type of sealant. Maybe its not tight enough or its on an angle.

Most traps DO have a slip joint connection with a washer. Only the more expensive traps ues a ground joint connection between the two parts of the trap.

I assume you are having problems with leaks occurring in the union nut of the p-trap fitting. Most p-traps use a slip-joint washer to make the seal at the union, but I have seen some that have the tapered slip-joint washer integrated into the union nut...and those are the ones that have problems with leaks usually.
