Hello, I've read a lot on these forums and appreciate them a lot. I would like to add a half bath in my basement and need some advice. I think that my situation is somewhat unique since I haven't found any posts that mention the same situation.

My home is about 80 years old and has the cast iron sewer pipes above the floor in the basement. The stack comes down to almost the concrete basement floor then connects to a horizontal 4" pipe(slightly angled of course) that heads about 15" through the basement and out the wall. I would like to hook the toilet in at the cleanout, and add a new cleanout on the other side of the toilet. If I can do this I know that the toilet would have to be on about a 6" platform above the floor, but that doesn't bother me much.

Will this work? Here is a simple drawing to illustrate the situation.

Have a local plumber look at it. There is MORE to installing a toilet than just "putting a fitting in the line" and moving the cleanout. When the pipe is above the floor, you will probably need a 9" platform for the toilet, and with most basements, that means you may not have enough head room, unless you are a short person.

Thank you so much for the reply. I've been reading a lot of plumbing guidelines and such but didn't find a suitable answer. I know there will be a good number of other things to consider if I go ahead with the connection and i appreciate the response.

You need a macerating toilet or, sewage ejector pit installed to do this right. Anything else will just be a hacked up mess.

Thanks for all the advice.
There is a sump hole fairly near the location. Could i get something like this Zoeller Simplex Sewage Package from grainger?

Of course then i would have to break up some concrete and run a line for my toilet and sink. If this works, and i have to spend the money, I may consider adding a shower stall as well.
