Hello,

I have a new construction home on well water and septic. When I turn on an upstairs faucet there is a strong rotten egg smell for about 15 seconds and then it goes away. Same thing for the fridge water dispenser, 1st glass of water is fine but the second glass smells. I was told that the rotten egg smell is common for well water but all the other faucets in the house smell fine and the water tastes fine. Can this be sewer gas smell or is it due to the well water. I appreciate any inputs, thanks

It is not sewer gas. It's hydrogen sulfide from the well. I aerate my water and run it through an iron filter and a softener, but I still get the smell really bad from the hand sprayer at the kitchen sink. I don't get it at any other fixture. I may get a hint of it in the shower at times. My drinking water goes through a 5 stage RO filter.

Thanks Terry, you were spot on. It was just the individual plastic (cold) lines going to the faucet that were causing the smell. I disinfected them with a bleach solution and they smell fine now. Why would just a few lines (out of many) smell or is this just the begining of more problems?

A friends home was that way. Whenever I went over there, they had bottled water, and yet it was only for the kitchen sink.
So I mentioned to the son-in-law, who had installed the faucet that maybe he should just change the supplies. He reaction was "No way could it be the supplies" it's just bad water.
Really? But from only one faucet? The two bathrooms were fine. They still had the old copper supply tubes.
So yes, I changed out the supplies and it was fixed.

But now you............If the supplies went bad once, don't you think it's going to repeat? I would toss those supplies and just pick up new ones.
At least when you start to notice the smell or taste change again. They don't cost that much.
