Correct P-Trap From ShowerTub? *UPDATED with Proposed Diagram*

Hey guys,
Got hammered by the plumbing inspector today, he is making me fix the previous owners mistakes :mad:
I needed to fix a p-trap on my showertub and was wondering if this was the correct way to do it?\

From the p-trap you can angle down at a 2% slope. You can't use fittings and raise the trap arm. That makes it an illegal S trap.
2% is the same as 1/4" per foot, or 1" for ever four feet.

If you are running into the floor joists, there are waste and overflow drains that can be offset from center.
 
Thanks Terry for the quick reply, unfortunately I have to drop about 2 inches in such a small space. I'm kinda stumped on this one..
 
Additional info:
Plumbing stack is about 20 inches from the Wye.

I'm not sure how an offset drain and overflow would help me, is there no way to do this without dropping below the joists?

You just need a longer tail piece from the drain/overflow from the tub...
 
You CANNOT drop out of the trap outlet until you reach its vent. AND, I am not sure that the tub is properly vented if that 3" line is continuing to the right for the toilet connection. You may have to lower the trap to the bottom of the joist, AND raise the 3" line to meet it.

Adding a longer tail piece from the overflow would push my p-trap below the joists.
I am trying to add a vent between the p-trap and the where the pipe dips down into the WYE.
Lets hope I have room.

Edit: Can I add a Tee instead of a 90 after the P-trap and go up with a vent?
Can I vent with 1 1/2 Pipe?

There is no such trap as what you have drawn.

Here the vent must be at least 2 pipe diameters from the wier of the trap. If you don't have enough room, you will need to move the wye.

Sorry I forgot to draw a tee after the p-trap. That is what I am using to make the fitting.
 
A proper vent would be done using a wye and 45 combo. If it is 2" trap, there would have to be at least 4" between the wier of the trap and the vent. If it is a tub, you only need a 1.5" trap and minimum 3" from trap weir to vent.
 
New solution

Lets try this another way.
I'm not sure if I can use the 1.5" Wye like this (see pic)

As I have it there is exactly 3 inches from the wier to the vent inlet, so I should meet code there...
In the pic the Wye is traveling a little bit up hill but I can get it to slope downward...
Let me know your thoughts. I am not using the black slip joint I have a pvc one I will be using.

You have the right idea, but the wye for the vent has to lie on it's back.

The side inlet of the main wye for the tub drain must be turned up so that the inlet is above the centerline of the fitting.
