Caulking a 2-piece acrylic tub shower

Hi -- I am finishing up installing a Maax 2-piece tub shower unit. I would like to put clear caulk on the join/area where the tub and surround meet.

Normally when I caulk, I put masking tape on either side of the join I want to caulk, and peel it off after I've caulked. This makes a nice sharp caulking line. But I have been told not to put any kind of tape on these acrylic tub finishes.

Would it damage the finish to use the blue masking tape for just a few minutes?
