Side Discharge Bath Drain

Do any of the plumbers have any experience with a side discharge bath drain? Are they a good alternative when there is a joist in your desired drain location? Thanks.

Side discharge, rear discharge, "toe outlet" drains, ALL of them are effective if your situation needs them. The biggest problem is usually finding one. The second disadvantage is the cost, since they are somewhat rare.
