Hey guys,
I have a 1.5HP 20GPM pump sitting at 100' with a CSV 1.2550 installed. The pressure tank is 50 gallons with just over 13 gallons drawdown, and the pressure switch is set to 40/60. The only problem I'm having is when the water usage is shut off, the CSV allows the tank to be filled in about 20-30 seconds. Is this normal? It seems to me that the valve should only allow a 2GPM fill rate with all the faucets shut off, which would mean the tank would take at least 6 minutes to fill. When running water the CSV operates as it should, keeping the pressure at a constant 50psi.

Thanks,
Clayton

With that valve 2 GPM is the average. With the pressure from a 1.5 HP, 20 GPM at that depth, it is probably about 3 GPM minimum. The CSV1.25 regulates a little high, like 53 PSI. So your tank at 40/60 is almost ¾ full before the CSV starts topping it off at 3 GPM. All this considered you should still be getting at least a minute of run time.

Maybe you air charge in the tank is a little low, which means you are not getting the full 13 gallons draw as you should. You can check this by letting the pump shut off at 60, then measure in a bucket how much comes out before the pump restarts.

Maybe your pressure gauge is a few pounds off (very common), and it is really shutting off at 57 instead of 60.

As long as the pump stays running steady when a small amount of water is being used, 30 seconds of run time is not a problem.

A CSV1-50 is really a better choice for a 20 GPM pump, as it will work all the way down to 1 GPM. But since you have such a large tank, the 3 GPM minimum is not a problem.
