Hi. Totally new to the terminology so I hope the pictures help. I attempted to replace our garbage disposal, and in the process of using a drain auger, damaged the slip from the wall pipe that goes into the p-trip. Since the slip is broken all the way to the pipe, I'm wondering if I can fix it, or if I need to call a plumber. Thanks

You should call in a plumber to rebuild that entire trap arm correctly. You have an extra connection before the p-trap which shouldn't be there.

Ia that an ABS fitting pasted to PVC or what? What's the fitting on to of the pipe for? It isn't legal whatever it is. Get a plumber, you've got a real mess to straighten out!

It looks like painted abs to me, but that other connection does need to go. I would take some acetone and take the paint off the pipe close to the wall, if it is abs then its pretty easy to replace with a coupling some pipe and fittings.

Yeah, I think Jerome is right about that being painted ABS and it can be easily fixed. You do have to cut out that extra fitting stick out of the top. Then an ABS trap adapter would have you back in business with a new P trap assembly. If that thing sticking out of the top is for some kind of pipe, it can't go there. It has to go before the trap...or it just has to go.

someone went to a lot of trouble to make the "P" trap connection as difficult as possible. Either unscrew the "trap bushing" from the female adapter and install a male threaded brass trap connector, or cut the female adapter off and glue on the trap adapter which will come with a new "P" trap.
