I live in vermont and every winter when it gets cold our water tank has to be reset if it sets for long periods of time. We only have a rock foundation so our basement is not the warmest. It runs off oil. The tank is probally 8 years old. Is this something we can fix or do I have to call a Plumber.

Oil burners need regular serive to clean the burners, check the flu, etc. When I lived in an oil area as a youngster, the Oil Supplier did regular inspections and service, either free or at modest cost. Call your oil supplier.
