Is there not someone in your town that you can call on to help you with this situation? By that, I mean someone who can advise you?

I'd suggest that you talk with your friends and/or neighbors to get suggestions about who they have had do work. There seems to be quite a bit going on there and you need someone who you trust to to help you make the right decisions. Just my opinion.

Are these plumbers and contractors working for the insurance company. They sound like the handymen insurance companies use to save on the repair costs.
