Before I complicate things, but have any of ya'll done a DIY style laundry box.
I'm thinking about doing something with a single handled shutoff, etc but in a recess metal box.
I would then flush mount it, and make it look *flush with the wall* with a hinge that pops the faceplate open......

Not something of the usual oatey/sioux boxes, close in design but just more hidden from a aesthetic standpoint..

Post pictures when it's done. I don't know what the thread is about, are you asking for approval of the idea?

If you balance it right it will be stable in both the open and closed positions. This project almost cannot go wrong.
I'd make it from panelling so it can be painted to blend in with the wall.

I was just curious if anyone has done such a beast....

I was initially looking at laundry boxes and nothing looked like it fit the bill. It was too *exposed* and or the faceplate trim was too generic...and BIG.
So hideaway laundry shutoff box it is...with the drain in a seperate box that is just a smigen lowed than the height of the washer

Put a conventional box just "a smidgeon below the washer" and be done with it. But if you are really serious about doing something different install "individual shower valves" in the wall above the washer, with just the handles showing, or a "access cover" in the wall with the valves behind it.

I'm with HJ, although you might add a sign that says, "CLOSE VALVE WHEN NOT WASHING" - few close them, at least they don't "til the have a hose burst. Then they become religious about it.

On a side note, my Miele washer came with braided hoses..
So aside from that fact it's a shutoff valve, why has it become a *practice* to shut it off when not in use.

Under my kitchen sink, or the basement bathroom, I am using braided lines.
I never shut the angles stops on these.

I can see how it would be less mitigated with tubular.

I was just thinking about this and the irony....of the theory on shutting the valve for this ...
Am I approaching this wrong.

Yeah, all of life is playing the odds. I use solid copper tubing, not flex. Roll the bones.
