View Full Version : Tub Drain Layout Opinions

I'm hooking up my tub drain and I'd like some opinions on my proposed layout. The original trap was very long; it almost looked like a "W" with an integral cleanout on the middle "point" of the W. I couldn't find anything similar, and the new trap's too short to reach the drain pipe on its own.

Have a look at the pics below and let me know what you think.

Also, I read that a glue-up drain is required above finished spaces (like my kitchen). Is that correct? It seems like a good idea, but the tub drain kits (overflow + drain/tailpiece) they had at Lowe's were slip-joint style...

You can use a 90 fitting, though you would normally use a 45 or 22 if possible to reduce bends.

I have some 45s, so I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

You would use just one 45, otherwise you are back to it being a 90

Oh I see. Turn the tee to meet the 45. Got it. Thanks.
