Hot Water Tank Air Pump Noisy !!!!!

I have a "Fasco" air pump mounted on my hot water tank and whenever hot water is demanded the air pump noise is unberable. Any ideas on how to quiet is down or any replacement recomendations ?

Why would you have an "air pump" on your hot water heater, unless it is a British system which is a different kind of "beast".
