Greetings all:

This is my first post here. Here is the situation. My kitchen sink backs up with sludge/nasty gunk ONLY when I use my MBR shower. This does not happen when I use my hall bath shower. Perplexing.

The kitchen sink is dual sink (garbage disposal left side, regular drain right side). the MBR shower to my best guess is above the kitchen on the 2nd floor. Kitchen is on ground floor.

I have attempted the 1/4 cup baking soda 1/4 vinegar solution on the sink, and the drain of that shower--MBR). I am confused that it only does this when I use ONE shower and not both.

Guessing the clog is obviously past the sink..and that the hall bath upstairs isn't on the same line of pipe? since the sink doesn't backup when the 2nd shower is on and working.

Hope this is clear..ANY input would be appreciated. as I am CLOSE to calling a plumber on this one. Its frustrating for sure.

There is a clog after the sink. The sink is on the same drain line as that shower. The other bath connects below where the clog is. That should help narrow it down, but only if you know where the drain lines run. You'll probably need a plumber to snake the line clear. Hopefully, there's no defect in the plumbing, and it is just a clog. But, it could be the line is not properly sloped. A garbage disposal unit can put a lot of debris in a drain line, and when they get older, the blades in the grinding chamber don't do as good a job, and people often don't run the water long enough after using. So, downline from that sink is a common place to get a clog.

Do not attempt to clear the clog with chemical cleaners. The do not work and will create a hazardous condition for the plumber. Also realize that DIY snakes usually are too light to really clear the clog. Frequently they just push it deeper into the pipe and compact it more. The heavy duty pro equipment is dangerous for a novice to consider using.
