1950s house, one story on slab. The kitchen sink has an S trap with the drain going straight down through the slab. Sink is under a window. Looking in the attic, there is a vent stack within 4 ft of the sink drain location. There is no other plumbing nearby, and all other plumbing fixtures in the house have vent stacks at their respective locations.
It appears that this vent stack somehow services (or is intended to) the kitchen sink drain. Has anyone seen this, how is it likely to be connected under the slab, and would it be a good idea to add an AAV to the trap?
Inspection is not an issue, inspectors in this town take the view that anything not practically changeable (without tearing up walls, etc.) is grandfathered in. Just want to learn more about this setup, have not seen it before.
