For some reason I have my heart set on a dual flush toilet. I'm having touble finding them with a 14" rough. I'm not certain how feasible changing our rough would be.

The only ones that I found are Gerber DF-21-304, DF-21-314, and DF-21-324. Are there any others available? How is the Gerber bad?

Bad tanks

The dual flush tanks by WDI, the EcoFlush have been going bad for me,
40% returns in the first year.

Gerber dual flush Flop

They don't change the bowl, they change the tank. The bowl will still set out 2" farther from the wall.
The elongated bowl will stick out from the wall a whopping 33 + "

For comparison, a 12" rough TOTO Aquia dual flush sets out 29.75" on a 14" rough.
I've sold 300 of these and they have been rock solid.

You can also pick up a skirted toilet with 14" Unifit and have the bowl at 28-3/4" from the wall. These can be Watersense toilets too. The 14" Unifit pulls the bowl back 2" closer to the wall.

Having a plumber move your rough-in could easily be $500 or more. Most of the time when it's 14", there is a reason for it.

A TOTO with 14" unifit on the left, and an American Standard with a 14" tank on the right.

Am i right that there aren't any other 14" rough dual flush toilets available?

My choices are either the Aquia with a 2" gap or a Toto compatible with the unifit? I'll have to look closer at all those Unifit toilets. Any thoughts on any of those after market dual flush kits?

There are other choices perhaps of big fat tanks on 12" bowls out there.

Anything Toto is going to work well that has the Watersense label.

The dual flush kits take a normal toilet and cut the water in half.
That doesn't change the function of the bowl, the kit may or may not work with the bowl you have.
But anytime you use less water without considering the bowl, you also reduce performance.
Just keep a plunger handy.

Just wanted to check i didn't miss one. We're getting our bathroom remodeled and replacing our 1964 toilet. I'm not sure of the brand or how much water it uses.

I'm sure we'll see a signifcant water savings just going to a Toto Watersense toilet that I can probably leave the dual flush idea alone. It's just seems like a good idea. I wish I weren't limited by the 14" rough.

Thank you for all your information and feedback.

A 1964 toilet was using at least 3.5 gallons, and maybe 5.0 gallons.
Even cutting that in half will only net you 1.75 to 2.5 gallons.
And I find that some of the old bowls will plug more then the new 1.28's even with 5.0

If I remember right, Toto opened a factory showroom in the Boston area. You could go there and see (most?) all of their products 'in the flesh' as opposed to a normal showroom that might have a couple of them. Might be worth the time to check it out, then decide. It's nice to see and touch things before you buy.

You are right about the showroom, Thank you! I should have started all this research much earlier - rushing to get everything ordered. This weekend Boston will be crazy crowded with the 4th celebrations.

What a great site with lots of great info!

If you use one of the Toto models that use the Unifit adapter, you will have all of the advantages of a 12" rough-in on the existing flange. Toto is the only manufacturer that provides such an adapter.
