replacing my bathtubs. Tub drain is threaded into the trap???

Hi guys,

I just bought a house that was a foreclosure. I am in the process of replacing everything in the bathrooms. The previous owner trashed everything. And I mean everything.

So a little background on the house. It was built in 1995. The waste pipe are all black abs. It had brass gerber tub/over flow drains connected to the tubs originally.

I removed the one piece fiberglass shower/tub units. I am trying to install new acrylic tubs with alcoves in place of these fiberglass units. (there are 2 baths I am doing this to)

I purchased a new drain kit for my tubs, and went to install them today. Well after I removed the old Gerber brass units, and went to install the new gerber plastic ones, I noticed they didn't use the slip fit joint on the Trap to install the drain kit originally. It was actually threaded into a female adapter. Is this normal? What can I do to get my new drain kit (which is just made to slip into a slip fitting on the trap....which I obviously dont have)

Is there some sort of adapter I need? Or do I need to rip out the whole trap...(I hope not, as that means ripping into the ceilings down below..ughhh)

You will need a "trap adapter"
It has the slip joint fitting on one end and glue on the other.
