Copper Kitchen Sink- Need Advice ASAP!

We are remodeling our kitchen and are considering an undermount copper kitchen sink, probably a Pegasus from Home Depot. It would look great in our kitchen, but I'm worried. We have to make a fast decision.

Question #1: Has anyone seen or had a natural copper kitchen sink for longer than a few weeks/months? If so, how long did it take for the patina to look good (darker, with variations but without looking like something's wrong with it)? From your experience, would you recommend one or not?

Question #2: The ones we can afford do not have soundproofing lining the underneath side of the sink. Do you have a suggestion for a way we could do that ourselves? Insulation or something? A spray type that would cover the whole underside?

I can help with #1, it took about 5 months for ours to have a nice patina to it

The key part of your question is your comment "what we can afford". Using ANY undermount sink, I would only go with the best available, regardless of the cost, unless the sink is installed in such a way that it can be replaced without affecting the countertops. Many of them use a substance similar to a automobile's undercoating and you might find that at an automobile parts store.

Thanks for your reply! After the 5 months, do you like it or recommend I stay safe with stainless? Do you have to worry about messing up the nice patina (for example, by rinsing off spaghetti sauce in the sink)? Would it be a problem to let a few dirty dishes sit in the sink for a while? We have a big, busy family (teens, not little ones).

Thanks hj. The cost differences are huge - from about $500 to $2500+. Stainless also can range really high in price, but I assume an 18-gauge or better stainless for $300-ish would be fine and a 16 or 18 gauge one for $2000+ is unnecessary. Great point, though! An undermount sink w/ a granite counter would be a lot bigger project to change out than a drop-in. They said it will have a silicone seal between sink & counter. Any experience changing one of those? If I knew it could be changed if necessary, I'd be more willing to go for what I want (copper).
