(It should have been titled sand point well, not sandpump.)
I have water coming up out of the ground at the bottom of our hill.(90' drop from the top of the hill to the bottom)I dug a hole about 4' deep with a post hole digger and the hole fill up with water.Could this be a natural spring or do you think it is just surface ground water? Would this be a good place to drive a sand point well? (clay soil). If so where exactly would I place a check valve and /or foot valve in relation to the drive point and pump? How exactly could a foot valve be attached since it has a screen at the bottom? Do I remove the screen and attach it to the top of the drive point? Thanks for any suggestions.

Clay is not usually good for a driven well. If you hit some sand, you might find some water. Can't use a foot valve with a point. Just put a check valve as close to the top of the drive point as you can. You really won't know if there is any water until you can run the pump.

Sand pump ,sand point wel

Thank you valveman. If this ground water turns out to being a natural spring, how do I tap into it?

Seems to me digging a big hole with a backhoe would be faster and maybe cheaper. Certainly faster. Maybe you could do a siphon for a test and not even use a pump. Test it until the dry season, if its still flowing you got yourself a well.

Drop back in for info on how to develop a spring if it keeps flowing.

We've got water at the base of evey hill here until late June.
