I had a new well drilled last summer (about ten months ago). This was for a new house so the plumbing wasn't done when the well was put in. However, in December 2009 I hooked up a toilet which has probably been flushed a couple hundred times so far. Well my problem is when I first hooked up the toilet the water was dirty but I figured it would clear up over time. Well now 4 months later, couple hundred flushes and a couple hours of letting the water run it’s still not clear. It’s now time to start running water to everything else in the house some I'm trying to address this issue so I ran the water for an hour over the weekend and the red color in the water went away(I’m assuming the red was just there from not using much water much), but the water is still not clear. It seems to have a white to light tan color to it. So my question is do I just keep on running the garden hose until it clears up? Do I need some sort of equipment to fix this? Also, I had the well drilled and I hooked up the pump myself. The well is 33 ft deep I place the pump at about 30ft. The water in the well is about 7ft from the top and even after about an hour of running the pump the water only drops to about 15- 20 ft. Should the pump be raised higher? If so how much? Lastly, was there anything that needed done (by either myself or the driller) to the well after it was drilled that might not have been done that would help clean up the water?

Sorry for the long post and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
William

The well needs to be developed. The driller could have done this but, you may not have wanted or paid him to do that. I would not be concerned until you have run water for at least a couple of days. Run enough hoses to keep the pressure low. Sometimes even then you have to shut the water off for a while, then run it hard for a few hours, and repeat this process until it clears up.
