overactive sump pump

My sump pump is only 3 years old and lately, well, eversince we discovered we have roots in our pipes leading to the street, it has been going off alot. Could this be related to the roots in the pipes?

If there is a restriction in the discharge line and there is no check valve on the pump, then this is the reason for your situation. It sounds like it might be recycling the water back to the pit. It could also be just more ground water surfacing in the pit as well due to recent rains in your area. Don't know where you live though.
