What are these hybrid water heaters I am seeing in Lowes at $1500+ (made by GE)?

A heat pump for water. It removes heat from the air, transfers it to the water and spits out cool air. Rheem makes it for them i suspect.

It uses a heat pump on top of the tank. I think it's along the lines of the same thing RUUD came out with earlier this year.

Sounds to me it would just be easier to make a tank with a removable jacket (for the summer time). Putting a fridge on a water heater is just asking for trouble.

Unless that same fridge, came with a bar attachment. :)

Hot water and beer on tap. Mmmmmmmmmmmm.
