View Full Version : Culligan Medalist Softener Brine Refill Cycle

Hello, I am trying to get more water into my brine tank. I already had the repair guy come out to fix this once. He removed a tiny valve in the top of the refill tube (said it does not need this). It worked great for a year or so. Now there is only a small amount of water in the tank again. No restrictions in the inlet tube. We dump a couple buckets of water in and the water remains soft. I think it just needs a longer time to get more water in there.
Is there a way to program the thing to let more water into the tank?
I downloaded the manual from Culligan but it does not address this setting (if there is one).
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Save me $100.

I don't know what valve he would have removed. Post a picture of where he removed it form.
If the softener doesn't use a float to shut off the brine refill water flow, then you program the control valve for the salt dose lbs. Depending on the model of control valve you have, you would set the number of minutes the Refill water runs for.
Post a couple pictures of the control valve.
Do you get a good flow of water into the salt tank during Refill?

Thanks for the help Gary! The thing the repair guy removed was from below the cap labeled .45 GPM. It was a cylinder shaped piece of plastic with a tiny oriafice.
The softener has a float, but it is never used. The water has never reached the float. Initially we had a water ring up about two feet. Now there is maybe 6 inches of water. Even after the repair man came out, I thought the water level was too low. It was only about a foot.
I have not tested the water flow on refill. Would I make it recharge and then wait around while it does it's thing until refill?
Here is a pic of the top of my inlet tube.
Thanks again - Robin

If you find out how to step the control from one cycle position to another you don't have to sit around watching it but, if that's what is needed, you don't have to do it, you can live the unit not working right or pay that $100 you mentioned. They might fix it this time or not.
I thought you'd post a picture of the control valve...and I'd know what valve you have and I could tell you what buttons etc. to push etc..
The .45 means the gpg of the Refill water.
The part and brine tank reminds me of a big box store brand softener, is the softener a Culligan? Post a picture of the control valve.

Here are a couple more pics. Sorry, I was not sure what you wanted for the control valve pic. Does this help?

That is a very low quality valve IMO but maybe pressing th Regen button and letting go starts a Regen and then if pushed in and let go again, it steps into the next cycle position. If so, get it into the Refill position and see how much water flows into the salt tank by disconnecting the brine line from that previous black fitting.
If it is a small dribble something is wrong in the valve and I can't help.

I will try that.
