I have an above ground 3/4 HP flo-tec well pump operating off 110 VAC. The original pump was running in "hard then soft" rapidly every time water was drawn.
The new pump is doing the same thing.. ALSO...the new flo-tec 46 gal tank is not filling with water, even after I close the ball valve after the tank!
Water is in the system because it is coming out of each outlet in the house. The pump is getting very hot and actually shut itself down for a short time (probably from the heat). The pipe to the tank is 1/2" copper. I am new to this, so any advice you can give would be great!

Thank you!

The pipe from the pump to the tank needs to be the same size as the pump outlet
The pressure in the tank needs to be set to 2lbs. less than the cut in set pressure on the pressure switch (see sticky above for details)
Why did you buy a flo-tech pump?

If it is a deep well jet pump the jet assembly in the well could be partially plugged, or no good which would allow the pump to move some water, but unable to build pressure.

It sounds to me like you have a shallow well jet pump and the nozzle is plugged or partially plugged. This will not give you enough pressure for the pressure switch to cut off and probably little or no water in the tank.

Find a breakdown of the pump and jet assembly, clean out the nozzle and you should be OK. Pumps don't build pressure the jets do. If you purchased a lawn sprinkler pump you purchased the wrong pump.

Also as Peter Griffin said, the piping to the tank should be the same size as the outlet size of the pump.
