My husband is doing this thought I'd help out. He is at Home Depot now. I know he disconnected all that he was suppose to but cannot pull it out. When he gets home I can have him post more info. Been in this house for 25 years and have never replace the it. I don't know how old it is. It still works but we have to keep pushing on the switch to keep it running. We had a hard rain yesterday and I was down there every 15 to 20 minutes pushing on the float. If you can let me know any info you need I will do my best. Thanks.
Oh, not a well pump a sump pump yes? If so please move the thread to the plumbing forum, you will get more responses. That said, I still need to know what he has removed and what is in the sump and if you could take and post a picture it would help a whole lot.
It might be bolted fast or otherwise held down so it can't move in the pit.
When you say you have to keep pushing on the switch, if it is a float, can you adjust it lower? Maybe spray some electrical contact cleaner in it somehow.
