Ok everyone bear with me.....
I am new to the forum and it seems this would be a great place to gain some info on a sandpoint well....

Heres my situation...

I am located in WI. I own some land in a marshy area. I have a 30 yard across by 40 yard long pond in the marsh. It is about 400 feet from the river. It is very dry here this year and theres only a little bit of water in the center of my pond..

I am wondering If i can use a sand point well in this case....its not sandy but the water table isnt very far down.

I dont need to get like 100 gpm out of it I would just like a slow steady water flow into the pond.

So mainly I need to know:

how does a sandpoint well work?lol
Will a sand point work?
Can I make a homemade one?
Would I be able to just pound it in and let water push itself up out of it or would i have to get a pump or could i just let it trickle out?

If i need a pump what kind would i have to get??

Thanks in advance for all ur help and comments and opinions

Could you clarify that sentence? because I'm not quite sure what you are trying to do

He wants a continuous flow of any volume at any rate into the pond:

I would just like a slow steady water flow into the pond.

A pump creates suction causing atmospheric pressure to push water into the point and up to the pump, then the pump forces the water onward.

Will a sand point work?

I do not know.

Can I make a homemade one?

Likely not.

Would I be able to just pound it in and let water push itself up out of it ...?

No, or your pond would already be spring-fed.

If i need a pump what kind would i have to get??

I believe a submersible would be best, and you might be able to put one in a shallow well right in the center of your pond and have its discharge shooting up like a fountain for circulation and a bit of aeration.

Lee, I'm confused. do you think he want's to pump from the pond or from the stream into the pond? Which begs the question why?

I might be wrong, but I think he wants to pump into the pond from a small well next to the pond on the thought that the nearby river and a little water presently in the pond (below-ground saturation) proves a small well pumping out of ground saturation will be sufficient for keeping the pond full.

sorry i wasnt clear enough.

I want to get water into the pond for the upcoming hunting season.

And Instead of pumping from the river because its kinda far away to get hose or pipe and I would need a big pump. I was wondering if I could set up a sand point well type thing to get a steady flow of water into the pond.

I dont need a high/fast volume of water to come out of the well. I just need something slow and steady.

I wasnt sure if I drove a pipe down far enough if there would be enough pressure to push water up outa the pipe.

I dont have electricity on my land down there so I would need a gas pump or a generator.

My other concern is that the soil is marshy/clay. So I dont want to buy the stuff and then it not work...

Sorry for the confusing explanations.

Thanks much for all your info and thoughts

If the water table is already down, pumping water into the pond will be a waste of time, it will rapidly disappear.
