Hello,

I want to install three bathrooms in my old house, all directly above each other (basement, first and second floor) and all designed exactly alike.

1. The waste stack for the toilets must be different from the waste stack for the other fxitures, correct? (i.e., I would have two waste stacks, one for the toilets and one for everything else).

2. Can the toilets discharge into the same waste stack?Or do I have to bring each toilet to the drain in the basement?

Thanks

EVERYTHING can enter the same stack, BUT the connections have to be made properly, and a multistory stack is not usually a DIY friendly installation. Your first premise is false, and you do not know the answer to the second question.

One key issue is proper venting for all of the fixtures. Generally, a section of a vertical stack cannot simultaneously server as both a drain and a vent. Terry has recently posted some diagrams of proper plumbing for a "typical" two-story bath in one of the threads here that shows how the individual fixtures are vented. There are a lot of design details that need to be worked out in order to have three stacked baths plumbed to satisfy code requirements.

This layout can go five stories if needed.
