How stupid can an experienced fireman be...well watch this and listen to what caused it...

Yup...the fireman says, just before he throws the flair, that he can smell the gas...Duh...

We're not all stupid. Certainly not like that. You NEVER use accelerants to start a fire. The same thing can be accomplished with a lighter and some straw. They are a volunteer department and while I have nothing against volunteer firefighters, sometimes the training lacks. We train in some form or another every shift and then at least once a week. You just don't get that on a volunteer department. Though this should be common sense anyway.

You'll notice the one in the white helmet--that's a chief.

A nice explosion.

It's always amazing how much force is behind a bit of gas vapor.
It seems so safe, until it explodes in a catastrophic explosion.

You will notice we don't have a Gas Forum here.
The plumbers here would prefer that the homeowners leave that to us.

Thats a fact Terry. Some things should be left to a pro only.

This explosion wasn't to bad...we had one about 7 years ago where people were moving into a brand new home and they had a propane leak..the whole 2 story home was left in splinters and it killed one of the 2 plumbers...they think he flipped a breaker to kill the electric creating a spark...but no one can remember after the blast...they never found the cause of the leak...

With regard to gasoline, it's no wonder that too many people don't know better.
We're fed a lifetime diet of TV and movies where someone goes into a building, supposedly pours gasoline all over the place, then lights a match.

In the movies, nothing happens until the match actually is thrown on the gasoline, and then it just begins to burn steadily.

Where in real life, the gasoline will likely explode the moment the match is struck.

I cringe every time I see these portrayals, because I fear that somebody like this fireman will do something like this in real life, and get the surprise of their life!
