We have an old version of the Eljer Canterbury 2 piece toilet (Model #'s 091-1400, 091-9400) and would like to be able to keep it -- rather than replace it. However, it continuously "flushes" and has been getting louder and making other whistling and squeaking noises. This toilet has the push button flush located on top (in the middle of the toilet lid). Do you know what the possible problem is? Do you know where we can find new replacement parts? If this doesn't work out, then we are thinking of replaceing with a Toto....just hope they aren't noisy.

Thank you.

No clatter, bang, whistles, or squeaks from my Toto, and it only flushes when I flip the handle.:D

Eljer keeps running

Chelsea,

I have the same model and had the same problem. The float gets worn and leaks by allowing the toilet to run continuously.

495-2000-00 Washer float insert $33.67

Hope this helps.

Problem with the eljer canterbury continuous flushing is that the back of the rubber flap gets hung up on the fill tube and leaves the flap open creating the constant running. By jiggling the handle it loosens the flap up and the flap drops and seals so the tank can fill instead of constantly running or if the toilet gets clogged after a flush this will cause water to spill over and flooding of floor and basement will ensue. This is a manufacturers defect caused by the fill tube. If you notice there is on the fill tube a plastic collar causing a 1/4 inch bump out in which the back of the flap gets hung up on. Eljer does not supply an email contact but has a phone number 800-442-1902 Monday through Saturday 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. EST. I would suggest going to the vendor such as home depot where the product was purchased and having them rtv the unit back to vendor.

He said it was an "old Canterbury". Do you think HD, or ANYONE, is going to accept it back after more than a year? I would want to diagnose the problem before even considering it as a "manufacturer's deficiency".

I run into the same problem trying to get Ford to warranty parts on my '79 F150! Heck, it's only got 375,000 miles on it!
