We are changing the toilet in our powder room to change the color and also to get a more efficient toilet. Problem is my wife hates the new designs. I noticed they sell dual flush "reto kits" for older toilets and wondered how well these work.

Does anyone have any experince with one of these "kits"?

Thanks

If you have an old Kohler Wellworth toilet rated at 250 grams, and then use half the water, expect to see the rated flush go down considerably.
If you are just moving fluid with the half flush, it may work for you.

Many dual flush toilets one the market are at 500 grams and better.

Most toilets designed for a full flush don't do as well with half the water.
Toilets designed to work with less, tend to do better.

I find it impossible to believe that in all of the choices of Toto toilets available, there isn't one that will fit your decor. When low flow toilets first were mandated, many of the old, well known, well regarded manufactures tried basically what you want to do. They tried to tweak their old full flows to meet the new standards. Not only did that not work, they gave people the impression clogs and poor flushing performance went hand in hand with low flow. I agree that appearance is important, but it possible to have an attractive toilet that performs well too. You need to find a dealer that handles Toto, you won't find them in Big Box Stores or discount houses.

Well, we live on a farm and most of the time there is just my wife and myself and we are older(i.e. pee a lot). Most of the time we do the "heavy lifting" once a day and the other 100 trips to the "loo" are,as Terry put it, just moving water and although we do live on a farm and have farm animals my wife doesn't buy the argument that if its OK for them to pee anywhere outside I should be able to do the same.

So my thoughts were that with a "kit" full flushes are just that while the 1/2 flushes are "moving water" Whether there is enough flow for that I'm not sure.

Since the performance is okay with what you have, then adding the dual flush kit may work for you.

I remember walking around our 125 acres. It would have been a long way to the outhouse.
