I plan to redo my entire firstfloor bath. Need to redo the toylet flange. My existing flange is too close to the wall and the toilet is part resest in the finished wall. Want to correct this. What is the normal roughin distance for this from the finished wall?

12 inches from the wall.. but it depends what toilet.. some toto's can do 10" with the unifit adapter.

Thats funny though there was a picture of a toilet through a finished wall in the pig slop thread! cheers to that!

Chose 12", and then, at least in the USA, your choices are nearly unlimited. Depending on the toilet, you'll have anywhere from 1/4 to 1-1/2" of clearance behind the tank to the wall. To that, there is no standard only that it will fit with 12".

Rough-in is measured from the finished wall (not baseboard) to the center of the flange. The toilet flange bolts are centered on this mark also. The "standard" distance is 12". Some toilets will use less space and still be called a 12" rough in, but to be sure, go with 12" if you are redoing the old drain.
