I planned to use Viega Pex in my new home because of the good reviews I've read about the product. The plumbing supply place in my town has the Viega fittings but does not carry their tubing. They stock Rehau tubing instead. I can get Viega tubing from another supply place but the Rehau was a little cheaper. Should I stick with Viega for everything or would I be ok with the Rehau tubing?

Also the supply place did not stock the Viega ball valves or stop valves. Instead they had Brigade. Will have any problems with that brand?

I appreciate the recommendations from the board.

Don't know Brigade, so I can't help there.

You will be fine with either brand, Viega or Rehau, both good products, however I would not mix brands, eliminates a potential pissing contest (it's the pipe....No, it's the fittings) if there is a problem.

No! It was the water! The water!

I asked this question to the Viega rep and I believe he said material while it won't make a difference, however, you won't get the 10 year (or whatever it is warrantee). The important thing is that the tubing meets the appropriate ASTM spec that are listed on the viega tubing. I use Viega fittings with Watts tubing because the Viega tubing requires I buy 300' rolls and Watts in 100'

Has anyone ever bothered to actually read the ASTM spec?

Here it is. http://www.viega.net/cps/rde/xbcr/en-us/TD-PFCXR-0108_PolyAlloy_Crimp.pdf

So what ?, go on and read it. It is nothing more than a confirmation of the manufacturers specifications. So ASTM tested the product and it conformed to what Viega said it conformed to. A lot of guys think that just because ASTM or NSF have approved a product that it somehow means the product is good. All these approvals really say is that the product is manufactured to specification.

Keep in mind that PolyButlyne is still approved for use under the IPC and the UPC. It carries ASTM and NSM certification and we all know where that wound up.
