Toilet Water Supply Rough-In

Hello -

I have found this forum very informative and now would like to post a question for the first time.

I am remodeling a small half bath in my home. I am moving the toilet away from the wall a bit because it was cramped before - toilet centerline was 14" from wall. When you walk into the bathroom, the toilet sits in the back, right corner. So, you can see the water shut-off valve beneath the left side of the tank. Normally, I would rough-in the water line 6" to the left of center and 6 inches from the floor. However, in this case I would like to place my toilet water line to the right of the toilet so you don't see it when you walk in to the bathroom. I would use braided stainless line to run from the tank inlet on the left to the new valve location on the right. I realize you would still see some of the flexible line, but I think it would look better than seeing the entire valve assembly.

Is there any reason any of you could throw out suggesting that I should stick with the normal left side water line installation?

Thanks in advance,

There's nothing wrong with moving it.

Just don't do what my former customer did years ago when he built his own home.

He roughed the water line out the wall the same place where the back side was directly where the trip lever was.

I never laughed so damn hard in my life, gave myself a reason to pee my pants cause it was so damn funny when we saw it. I was crying from laughing so hard because I couldn't believe what I was seeing, and having my plumber buddy laughing/agging me on didn't help.

Wow! With shoes included!

Oh it was an interesting one. He was a ford autoworker, ran all the piping inside the house in 3/4" PVC, I mean, everything. When he ran that water line for the toilet it looked like he took a hammer and smashed into the wall to bring the water line out.

Along with that little trick, he was trying to use tubular PVC for the tub drain on the trap...he tried to put the water heater upstairs instead of the basement for some odd reason, no pan, no T&P line to a drain.

It all went in and missed inspection because he was farmstead exempt and the plumbing in the structure didn't have to be permitted.

No vent fans in the bathrooms. When the guy would use the bathroom the entire house became a horrible place to be. At least that what his kid said breathing fresh air riding his bike said. LOL!!!

Wow, did that person want the RV living experience in his home too?

Toilet, wash basin AND shower all in 1 !!

Okay, maybe not a shower but sure looks like it could be used as one. Is that a drain in the floor beneath the shoes?
